Fly Pond Maintenance 29-Oct-07

Over the week beginning 29-Oct-07, we have drained and cleaned the fly pond, including weed removal and some dredging work. While cleaning the pond, Stevie, our Fishery Manager decided to take the opportunity to clear the pond of all Roach, approximately 10,000, which we have moved to a holding pond and plan to exchange for Carp fry in the near future. The hard work of Stevie, Dougie and Alastair was captured on camera - please see below for some great pictures of the work in progress. Once the pond is refilled, it will be freshly stocked with Rainbow Trout, and should hopefully remain Roach free for some time.

Highland Cattle at Newmill, 03-Oct-07

There has been a new addition to the residents of Newmill in the form of a herd of eleven Highland Cattle. The Deer Park has now been empty for over 18 months and we were at a loss as to what to put in it, until the idea of Highland Cattle reared its hairy head. The sale was completed just before the foot and mouth outbreak in the South of England put a stop to our transporting these fine beasts to their new home, but now that the ban has been lifted, they have arrived at their new home and are settling in well. Alastair has been spending every spare moment upgrading the old deer park fencing, and until then the herd is in a holding field. It will be a fine sight to see them wandering around the deer park. The view from the cafe should be spectacular!
